Role of the Oakland County Republican Party
Overall Mission
As the officially recognized and sanctioned local organizational unit of the Republican Party, the mission of the Oakland County Republican Party is to lead and support the Republican Party in Oakland County: (1) by promoting the principles and objectives of the Republican Party within the platform adopted at its most recent national convention; and (2) by establishing and operating a political organization that provides scalable infrastructure to our candidates through effective execution of our core capabilities. As a legally recognized County Party, we have an unparalleled opportunity to make a difference within Oakland County in ways that other entities are generally prohibited from doing.
Core Capabilities
Party Building & Administration: At the heart of our organization and charter is the responsibility to host regular County Conventions to conduct party business such as elevating Precinct Delegates to State Convention. In a jurisdiction as large and populous as Oakland County, this is a significant undertaking in both time and financial resources. As a regulated entity, ensuring we are compliant with all applicable laws (ex: regular campaign finance reports), as well as our bylaws, falls within this capability, which is executed by the Vice Chair and Treasurer.
Fundraising: Without success in this capability, all others are destined to fail. OCRP uses a variety of channels and methods to raise money in a compliant manner, including the 500 Club, in-person fundraisers, major donor programs, and direct appeals through mail, digital, and phone communications. The lifeblood of our fundraising efforts is through membership dues.
Political Operations: Our job is to build the infrastructure needed for our candidates to take the reins post-primary and win in November. Key examples of the strong candidate support we provide are a central office where candidates and their teams can distribute signs/literature and hold meetings, candidate and activist training at no cost, press lists and media training, and access to data & technology. In the 2024 calendar year alone, OCRP offered candidates savings of over $12,000,000 when compared to the cost of acquiring the same tools on their own.
